]]>On this cold October evening, rain falls in the distance from low hanging storm clouds. The Hurricane River flows into Lake Superior. This wasn't one of the biggest sky filled sunsets I have seen, but it was one of the most beautiful and memorable for me.

]]>This little waterfall is a hidden Gem on the far East end of Lake Superior's Miners Beach. The Pictured Rocks get their name because many of the sandstone formations and walls have been stained red, orange, black, white, and green from traces of minerals.

]]>One of the prettiest spots along Pictured Rocks is Miners Castle. Years ago we used to sit out on those turrets , it is not allowed anymore. A few years back one of the turrets broke off and crashed into Lake Superior almost capsizing a fishing boat.

]]>The Mary Jarecki was a wooden bulk freight steam Ship of 645 tons, 200 feet in length. It grounded on Au Sable Reef and went down on July 4, 1883. She lost her way in one of the heavy fogs that frequent the area. These shipwrecks are a sobering reminder of the incredible power of Lake Superior.

]]>It's interesting seeing the trees along the Pictured Rocks shoreline that are just hanging on at the very edge of the cliffs. There roots seem to stretch back anchoring them into the soil, like the birch tree seen in this photo.
